Employee volunteer scheme: internal feedback

What role does Komeet (formerly Vendredi) play in implementing the corporate volunteering scheme?

Our partner Komeet plays a key role in rolling out the programme.
The online platform makes it easy to:

  • Put Econocom in touch with beneficiary organisations;
  • Organise volunteering projects and assess their impact;

The administrative side is handled by the HR teams of the group’s companies.

What makes Komeet (click here to see more) stand out is its ability to choose the right corporate volunteering scheme to suit the needs of each non-profit association – which saves considerable time for both the beneficiary organisations and Econocom.

The volunteer programmes available on the platform

Coaching and mentoring

One-off or regular coaching sessions for members of beneficiary organisations.

Skills sponsorship

Lending skills to non-profits for a particular project.

“Helping hand” projects

One-off schemes which don’t require any specific skills.

Corporate volunteering and the Econocom group’s commitment

Corporate volunteering is a system whereby a company can lend its employees’ skills to help charities, non-profits or public interest initiatives. For Econocom, this initiative is central to its CSR approach and allows employees to take concrete measures to show their sense of civic duty while increasing the group’s social responsibility.

My experience with Espérances Banlieues

The programme gave me the opportunity to take a break from my usual working day, have a rewarding human experience and give something back.

I chose to volunteer for Espérance Banlieues, a non-profit that helps promote equal opportunities through education. I myself grew up in a working-class neighbourhood, so it’s something that’s close to my heart. I spent a day with some schoolkids in Sannois and was impressed by their drive and respect, how determined they were to make something of themselves by excelling at sports and education, and how proud they were to be part of the project.

It was a great way to have some hands-on experience in the field, and see how inequality starts early in life. It showed me that we can all do our bit to improve equity in society.

My experience with “100 chances, 100 emplois”

I think it’s a fantastic initiative, and really rewarding, because it’s a way to make a tangible impact at your own level.

I like to feel useful and know that my skills can be used for a good cause.

For me the most rewarding part of the scheme was taking part in 100 chances, 100 emplois(100 opportunities, 100 jobs"), where I organised job interview role plays with kids trying to enter the job market. A lot of them were stressed, some were disheartened, but they were really endearing. I tried to reassure them, advise them –  or sometimes just listen to them. I was really touched by their gratitude.

Not all the projects were as rewarding: some of them – for example, checking sports equipment – wasn’t as enjoyable. But even then, I learned something and found out about some inspiring new initiatives.

What did I take away from the experience? That it’s really important to choose a project that matches not only your skillset but also your personal values.

My experience with Un petit bagage d'amour

I already do volunteering in my free time, so when I found out I could also make a contribution through my work, I jumped at the chance.

I chose an organisation called “Un petit bagage d’amour” which helps vulnerable expectant mothers.

My job was to put together care packages for future mums, with clothes, nappies, bottles, cuddly toys, and everything else a newborn baby needs. I really enjoyed preparing the packages with the other volunteers; there was a really great atmosphere.

But my most poignant memory was seeing the smiles on the faces of the mums when they came to pick up their care package. It was a just a fleeting moment, but full of emotion and relief.

I also asked my colleagues to do their bit by donating clothes and toiletries: it was really rewarding being able to get other people in the office involved.

I know now I don’t want my experience volunteering with this organisation to end there.
I plan to make our partnership a long-term thing.
